A sad but true reality is that every two minutes, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer, affecting thousands of people’s lives including many of the colleagues here at Verastar. Fighting against this illness, is Cancer Research UK who have a vision to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
In order to achieve this vision, the organisation hold numerous nationwide fundraising events throughout the year, including Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. Verastar have taken part in Race for Life events for many years, and this year was no different for Team #Verastar.
For those of you who haven’t taken part in a Race for Life event before, we can’t recommend it enough. The atmosphere on the day was electric, as everyone warmed up, stretching together to music which really got the crowd going. Answering the inspiring question ‘What are you fighting for?’, we heard stories from those affected by cancer on stage and in the crowd. One of our main organisers for the event, Darshna Patel, Admin & Quality Support Supervisor for Verastar described the scene as she got ready for her 5k:
‘Seeing people’s faces and hearing their stories on the day really gave us all goosebumps. Being part of a crowd of 1000s of women all in pink is a real experience, women from all different backgrounds, some affected by cancer and some just fighting for the cause – none of that matters because you’re all doing it for the same reason.’
This year, across all Race for Life events, we are proud to have raised £1847.70 which the company has matched, totalling in £3695.40 worth of donations from Verastar this year.
On the events, our Customer Relations Director Janette Palmer adds:
‘As a company, we are dedicated to supporting as many worthwhile charities as we can. The work carried out by Cancer Research is close to many of our hearts and we are really proud to have been involved once again this year. The events combined fun and an extremely worthy cause, and we’ll definitely be taking part next year too.’
The events, as always, were extremely well organised and we want to say a big thank you to Cancer Research and all the volunteers for their hard work in making it a day to remember. We are looking forward to next year already!
