A Verastar company – kinex – runs the Community Support Scheme and has recently donated £500 to another worthy cause – The Message Enterprise Centre (MEC) in Sharston, Manchester.
The MEC is a new concept in socially responsible business. It works with ex-offenders, the homeless, former addicts and people with learning difficulties, to help them into apprenticeships, jobs and homes – so they can rebuild their lives. And this year it was awarded first place in The Sunday Times’ annual Best Companies 2018 survey, in the Not-For-Profits category.
The charity works in prisons throughout the north east and partners with local charities to train and mentor and house people who need their help. Business Development Manager at The MEC, Sam Hawthorne, says that they rely on the support of individuals and corporate partners to continue their valuable work.
“Thank you so much for awarding us this very generous donation. It is a very admirable scheme that kinex is running, giving back to your local community and we feel honoured to have been selected. This donation will help to train and mentor some of our future team members who really value the chance to rebuild their lives.
“kinex is a stone’s throw from our centre in Sharston, and regularly hosts training days and colleagues come in for their lunch breaks. One of your team came into our Mess Café a few weeks ago. They were interested in our work and suggested that we apply for a donation through the kinex Community Support Scheme. It’s great that the biggest business and biggest charity on Sharston Industrial Estate are now working together.”
