Verastar, the leading provider of essential services to small business in the UK, is pleased to announce that it has become a green electricity provider. 100% of its electricity supplied through brands kinex, Clear Business and Unicom now comes from renewable energy sources.
This move comes as part of a business focus for Verastar to sustain and protect the environment, through reducing the carbon footprint of its customer base of more than 160,000 businesses. Verastar currently provides essential business services to 10% of the SME market and is using this position to do their part towards sustainability.
On the switch, CEO Chris Earle said:
“The switch to green was an easy decision for us to make as a business. Our customer base covers a wide range of sectors, from health & beauty to farming, and no matter what industry they’re in they’ll now be reducing their carbon footprint which is a really positive step.”
Last month news broke that the cost of power generation from gas spiked above coal and there were fears this could see other operators revert to coal plant generation. Recent reports from the International Energy Agency, also show that carbon emissions from the energy sector are on track to grow for the second year running, as found during preliminary analysis by the world’s energy watchdog.
Verastar is aiming to combat this. Based on the annual consumption of an average customer, Verastar has calculated that a typical business will save 4.57 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere every year. Using the Forestry Commission Report, this works out as the equivalent of planting 2285 trees every year.
