VERASTAR HAVE SCORED AGAIN BY HOSTING A FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT AND RAISING AN OUTSTANDING £1096.22 FOR CHILDREN’S CHARITY, WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR.

The seven-a-side tournament was held at William Hulme’s Grammar School in Whalley Range which saw six teams compete in ten minute matches. The teams comprised of internal departments within the company playing against each other, nothing beats a little healthy competition.

When You Wish Upon A Star, the company’s affiliated charity of the year, is dedicated to granting wishes to children living with a life-threatening illness.  Previous wishes that have been granted range from laptops to keep in touch with friends or family while the children are in hospital, to a magical trip to Disneyland to meet favourite characters to even mingling with real-life stars.

Nathan Sargent, Project Manager at Verastar organised the hugely successful event. He said: “We were delighted with the turnout of players given the dodgy weather but it certainly didn’t dampen the spirits. The final was between Craig Stone and Ryan McDonagh’s ever-competitive sales teams. Ryan’s team played with only six men all night, an amazing effort but it was top-scorer, Craig and his team who took the final glory.”

He added: “It was great to see everyone join in and even better to see our veteran, Paul Doherty, CFO, score a decent goal. It’s a really fun way to be raising money for such a fantastic charity that does such good.”

Jen Hughes, Regional Fundraiser for When You Wish Upon A Star said: “We’re delighted that Verastar have yet again chosen to support our charity to help us grant more magical wishes. Every day we receive phone calls from parents of sick children from all over the country, asking if their child can have a wish granted. We attempt to make that dream come true and provide happy and precious memories for the families of these special children as time is not always on their side.”

She added: “Thank you so much to everyone who has supported the football match, without the continued support from Verastar, we would be unable to say yes to so many more amazing Wishes and make a huge difference in the lives of our Wish Children.”
