WE NEVER REALLY NEEDED A REASON TO HAVE A CUPPA AND CAKE HERE AT VERASTAR, SO WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE PART OF THE WORLD’S BIGGEST COFFEE MORNING, IN SUPPORT OF MACMILLAN, AROSE WE WERE IN
The teams across all departments got their whisks and wooden spoons out to bake some delicious treats for us all to enjoy and raised a staggering £670.12. And even more impressive, we achieved a personal best with our fundraising efforts, beating last year’s contribution by well over £100.
The first ever Coffee Morning happened way back in 1990. It was a rather small affair with a simple idea: guests would gather over coffee and donate the cost of their cuppa to Macmillan in the process. It was so effective, it was repeated the year after – only that time nationally. Since then, Coffee Morning has raised over £138 million for Macmillan.
And of course it wouldn’t be right to not add a little healthy competition, so we held a contest where the ‘Best Baker’, runner up and third accolades were awarded. Carol Osborne took the coveted top prize, Lee Camozzi and Mat Samuel came joint second and Aurelia Bowerbank, third.
One in three of us will face cancer, and the money we raised will help Macmillan ensure no one has to face it alone. So with that in mind, we can’t wait to raise our cups again next year…
